I was saddened and quite surprised when glancing through a copy of the local paper this morning. A classmate from high school who was in the drama program died on July 13 from colon cancer.
Troy William (Massey) Sikel
July 20, 1974 – July 13, 2011
OREGON CITY – Troy was born in Salem, Oregon and spent his childhood in Monmouth and Salem, Oregon. Troy graduated from McKay High School in 1993 and attended the University of Oregon. He graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor’s degree and went on to Lewis & Clark to obtain his Master’s degree in 2002. He is survived by his spouse Dawn Sikel, his daughter Adrienne Sikel, step-son BJ Groat, parents Jerry Massey and Charlene Sikel, brothers Todd Massey, Tyler Safina-Massey and Corey Massey.
Troy enjoyed many things but among his favorites were running, exercising, springtime and elephants.
After a courageous 2 year battle with colon cancer Troy passed away in Oregon City 1 week shy of his 37th birthday.
Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday July 21, 2011 at 1:30pm at Pringle Community Hall. Located at 606 Church St SE, Salem, Oregon.
He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
