Hybrid Slugs

A mild winter, a wet spring and interbreeding has led to the a population explosion of slugs in Scotland. Foreign species mate with native black slugs, creating havoc on plants and gardens.

One expert claims that “hybrid slugs can lay four times as many eggs as native slugs, from 100 to 400 eggs.”

Apparently Scandinavia is experiencing the same problem, minus the interbreeding.
