I arrived in Watertown, a town in northeastern South Dakota yesterday morning, after taking a very crowded red-eye from Seattle. There are a lot of family connections here.
This morning I visited the cemetery where many of them are buried, including my grandparents. I came upon their gravestones while slowly biking around the place. My mom said the spot was near the road on the north end of the cemetery. And, sure enough, she was right, and without even looking at a map!
Joking aside, it was nice to touch down at the airport after flying over Lake Kampeska. There is so much history here that is personal to me. I am glad that I will be here for a few weeks.

My maternal grandfather, Oscar Fromke, helped build the airport in Watertown, South Dakota in 1937, during the Great Depression. He worked for the WPA, the Works Progress Administration, one of FDR’s New Deal programs. I love flying into the city and landing at the airport. https://www.instagram.com/p/BvvdtF7lhUJ/
