No one claimed the body of Jewett Williams after he died.
He “took his last breath at the Oregon State Hospital for the Insane, where he had been committed with dementia in 1922. He was 78 and had lived there for three months.”
“For nearly 100 years, his ashes were forgotten, shelved and stored away with 3,700 other unclaimed patients.”
But now his remains are heading to Maine, his native state.
