Hermann is getting a makeover. The Romans called him Arminius.

The Hermannsdenkmal is a large monument erected in his honor and commemorating his victory in battle in the Teutoburg Forest.

Roman historian Tacitus declared him “unquestionably the liberator of Germany.”

My great grandparents, who immigrated from Germany in 1887, named one of their sons, the older brother of my grandpa, Herman. He, too, was quite a character.
