How fitting that my great uncle’s name, Everett, is Germanic in origin.

About a decade ago, he agreed to swab his cheek for DNA, which I then sent off to be analyzed. Turns out the family surname, Hay, was originally Höh, and they hailed from Germany, an area not far from France, south of the Ramstein Airbase, with many of the place names incorporating Höh—, such as Höheinöd.
