Ottilie was the name of my great grandfather’s sister. He gave the name to his oldest daughter.
The sister died in Berlin in 1947, witnessing the rise and brutality of the Nazis, the devastation of the war, and the plundering of the place the family had likely called home for centuries, Pomerania.
Her niece Ottilie disappears after arriving in America with her parents in 1887. Like her brother Emil, she probably died sometime before 1900.
