I’m reading about William Crawford, a colonel during the Revolution. The man can’t catch a break.

A statue of Crawford in Ohio was recently beheaded by unknown assailants.

I didn’t know anything about the man. He worked as a surveyor with George Washington.

He was tortured and burned at the stake by American Indians in retaliation for the Gnadenhutten massacre, a notorious incident near the end of the American Revolution.”

An army doctor recorded details of his death.

“Crawford was stripped naked. His ears were cut off. Then he was bound to a stake, covered in gunpowder, and summarily set on fire.”
