This man was an Askari soldier from the German East Africa, a colony of the German Empire. He was a member of the Freikorps and photographed in Munich in 1919. During the First World War, he served under Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck, who led a brilliant campaign of resistance. The unit was the only German army never defeated in battle during World War I.
