A PORTRAIT OF GRANDPA HILL
I’ve finally finished and scanned a portrait of my grandfather, who was a farmer in Iowa and South Dakota. He died in November of 1973, while I was in my mother’s tummy. He was born in 1918, on March 19, literally a hundred years ago. That was the year of the deadly Spanish flu epidemic, a global catastrophe.
I have been working on images of ancestors using numerous artistic mediums. This is my first portrait with oil pastels. Pastels are quickly becoming a favorite of mine.
