Bernie! That’s Bernard to you.


It’s March 4th — March the Fourth in the year 1583 and Bernard Gilpin has been on his deathbed. He is an English clergyman whose ministry in neglected sections of Northumberland and Yorkshire  — the wilds of the northern England — earned him the moniker “Apostle of the North,” a nickname he shares with other missionaries such as Ansgar. He was 66.

Now, let’s see what I can find out about him and life in England during his time.
