I wanted to see how this translated into French, which is probably how Braque originally wrote or said it, so I used an online translator.

It gave me:

L’art est une blessure transformée en lumière.

I put it back into English:

“Art is a wound transformed into light.”

It reads better. It sounds better. Transformed is a much better word than the simplistic and boring turned. It paints a better picture in one’s mind.

Art is a wound transformed.
