Every day in April an average of 173 children were caught entering the country illegally & now they live here

The Office of Refugee Resettlement.

The name says it all, really.

That’s the bureaucracy behind the chaos that it is federal policy on those crossing our southern border illegally.

A unit within is the Unaccompanied Children’s Services. These folks take custody of minors who have entered the country without permission. Rather than being sent home, these kids are placed in homes throughout the country.

I doubt most Americans realize what’s happening out there. The remaking of America, the atonement for its collective sins, is well underway, just as Obama promised.

For every day in April the Border Patrol intercepted, on average, 173 children entering the United States illegally. These children were then released to the Office of Refugee Resettlement for placement in cities across America.

Look, I like kids. And I am sure their lives elsewhere are not necessarily easy or pleasant. However, that does not give them or the federal government the right to break our laws, to enter the United States and live here without going through the immigration process.

So the feds classify folks, including kids, crossing the southern border without permission as refugees? Has this been debated in the Congress? Has a law been passed declaring such? Of course not.

Eskimo, Eskimo, Eskimo, Eskimo, Eskimo, Eskimo!

Obama signs into law ban of word Eskimo and othersPresident Obama has signed into law a measure that abolishes the terms Negro, American Indian, Eskimo, Oriental, Indians, Aleut and “Spanish speaking individual of Spanish descent” from use.

When will we ban the word government? How about bureaucrat and its variations?

I plan on using the word Eskimo as much as possible now. Let’s rename the Washington Redskins, the DC Eskimos!

When does the madness end? Sadly, it never does and never will.

Welcome to the land of the bureaucratic crazies

There is a regulatory agency demanding that turkey ham packaging use a particular typeface? The shape of pineapple in fruit cocktail? I never much cared for that, fruit cocktail.

It’s amazing what you learn by reading the news.

Laws are written by elected members of Congress, while regulations, which are supposed to carry out the laws, are written by bureaucrats at agencies.

But they often produce bizarre outcomes.

Mr. Hatch in his letter cited one regulation that controls the type of font companies are allowed to use in the word “turkey” when they advertise “turkey ham.” Another regulation governs the shape of pineapple pieces in fruit cocktail.

Someone doesn’t have enough work to do.

So long, farewell federal school lunch program. Bye, bye.

Hey, whaddya know? Leaving federal programs with onerous rules, and the money attached, works. It has numerous benefits.

The latest example is the school lunch program. Public schools in Kane County, Illinois¹ did it, as have others.

“The problem with the federal school lunch program was that foods being offered were not what the students wanted to eat . . . ”

As one administrator explained, changes to the federal school lunch program, spearheaded by First Lady Michelle Obama, were “well-intended, but it had unintended consequences. Giving kids what they want to eat – it’s a subjective thing.”

And the bureaucrats clearly aren’t the answer.

“Let parents and students make that choice on their own.”

Freedom is a great thing.

1. Kane County is where some of my ancestors — the Reynolds, the Walkers, and the Tallmans — lived and worked, hence my interest in the place. That’s why I happened to find this. I browse through the papers of places where the family lived, even if it was more than a hundred and sixty-five years ago.

A Call to Action?

Anyone recall Kate Brown and other lefties demanding the end of the Occupy encampments? Hmmm, I don’t either. There was one in Portland, another in Salem, and another in Eugene.

But then when did utter shameless hypocrisy stop ’em?

Personally, I think the Feds are wise to take a hands off approach. The last thing we need is another confrontation with armed militia men, à la Ruby Ridge and Waco. Hopefully, the occupation will fizzle on its own.

The Million Dollar Government Employee

Is Dr. Arvizu worth a nearly $1 million salary? No wonder he is smiling.
Is Dr. Arvizu worth a nearly $1 million salary? No wonder he is smiling.

The secretive National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is “the place where solar panels, windmills and corn are deemed the energy source of the future.” It’s a lucrative business thanks to billions in government subsidies. It’s also an advantageous place for government bureaucrats.

“NREL’s top executive, Dr. Dan Arvizu, makes close to a million dollars per year. His two top lieutenants rake in more than half a million each and nine others make more than $350,000 a year.”
