Why are so many of those in positions of authority such gullible fools? The murders committed by this terrorist is why people should be able to sue government bureaucrats. People must be held personally and criminally responsible for such negligence.

Veteran Chicago police Sgt. Donald Markham was shot by someone else at point-blank range in his home in 2015 before the scene was staged to appear to be a suicide, a forensic pathologist hired by the FBI concluded in a report obtained Thursday by the Chicago Tribune.
The five-page report contradicts Cook County officials’ ruling that Markham had shot himself in September 2015 after a drunken argument with his wife, Dina, also a veteran Chicago cop. The report was part of a yearlong probe by the FBI, which began after questions were raised within the Chicago Police Department about Markham’s death.

Recently I had an encounter with the Seattle police. The background is a long, drawn out story that I may tell someday. But right now I am focusing on what the officer said, partly because it’s so odd and partly because I find it amusing.
I sit in public spaces for long periods of time when I am not feeling well, and this apparently makes some uncomfortable, who then call the police about this strange man — me — who just sits. I rest up and then eventually move on. But when I am exhausted I just sit and rest.
I usually do this in spaces with wifi. Otherwise, I’d be bored out of mind, though lately I have been catching up on my book reading. (I am reading one about Martin Luther and the Reformation that is fantastic.)
Part of our conversation went as follows:
ME: “I’ve been having serious medical issues. I may have lymphoma.”
A look of alarm suddenly covers the policeman’s face. He backs away slightly as if I might somehow infect him.
OFFICER: “Is that contagious?”
I am taken back by his ignorance.
ME: “Seriously?”
I am quickly chastised by his partner, so I expound on my answer.
ME: “It’s a blood cancer,” I reply, incredulously.
He probably still has no idea. Did he get into his patrol vehicle and look it up? My guess is no.
I’ve been wondering if he was hoping he’d have something on me, like being a public health threat, so he could call in a HAZMAT team and ship me off to a hospital ward somewhere.
These two officers were hard, cold-hearted authoritarian types. Not a fan. I’ve encountered so many heartless bureaucrats recently.

The police are the heroes
Ben Stein writing at the American Spectator gives us some perspective and numbers on the police and the state of black culture in America.
“It’s a total utter lie that police shootings are a major cause of black deaths.”
Most are suicides, sadly.
“The huge majority of the rest are black-on-black gang and drug related shootings.”
That’s the major, underlying issue here: the lack of courage within the black community to confront what really plagues their neighborhoods. It’s the crime, the violence, the drugs.
“The Obama clique makes no effort at all to rein in these gangs. The gangs kill and no one proposes any laws about it at all.”
President Obama has been much a president. Sure, he’s won two elections. He’s held the office. But he has been everything but presidential. He has shown virtually no leadership on these and other critical issues.
“There is a giant super crisis among blacks: Violence. Drugs. The collapse of the family. Pitiful education. Low participation in the labor force. None of this is caused by the police.”
Federal, state and local leaders must begin to address the collapse of the black family and their communities.

I love seeing the flag fly. Sadly, on this occasion, it was to honor a policeman in Iowa killed in the line of duty.
