“He killed a fascist. I see nothing wrong with it.”

THERE IS NOTHING
WRONG WITH MURDER?

Smearing political opponents as fascist is a dehumanizing tactic, just what the Nazis did with their political and perceived opposition, including the Jews, during World War II.

“He killed a fascist. I see nothing wrong with it.” That is a quote from Erik Loomis, a professor at the University of Rhode Island. He supports stalking and murdering people he considers fascists, such as Aaron Danielson, who was shot dead by leftist radical Michael Reinoehl in downtown Portland, Oregon.

Earlier I wrote about artwork at the University of Rhode Island that is slated for removal because it has been deemed offensive and controversial, which is blatantly ridiculous.

Up is down at the University of Rhode Island. Reasoning and decency are dead.

Gotthilf!

His complete name is Gotthilf David Siegfried Lentz.

Recently I visited a friend, a retired Methodist minister, who has been visiting her daughter in Seattle.

For years she lived and worked in Seattle. The family is from Vermont, and she spent much of her youth in Switzerland, where her father was stationed with the State Department, I think.

While we talking one evening, she mentioned my tweet. She was curious about the name. We figured out the God part, but didn’t get farther than that. So later I decided to use the Google, specifically Google Translate, and after learning the meaning of his name, I sent off a note to her.

Just learned that Gotthilf is ‘God’s help’ in English.”

And she promptly replied, after her return home to Portland via the Bolt Bus.

“That is fantastic…nice name.”

Get thyself on Twitter, Hager-Smith! And then ye may tweet me directly.¹

1. She is, or was, on Twitter, but hasn’t updated her account since 2014.

London Bridge back in the day must have been something

I’ve been browsing through a book on London. In it, there is a horizon-level, river view of the bridge showing a series of buildings rising from it. It is basically it’s own town.

I’d love to see such a sight in the modern era. Someone should recreate it, or something similar. Portland, Oregon or my hometown to the south, Salem, would be perfect, spanning the Willamette.

There’s nothing better than a good villain.

Grand Admiral Thrawn is a complex, multi-faceted character and the primary antagonist in the third season of Star Wars Rebels.

I’ve been a fan of Star Wars since first seeing Return of the Jedi on network TV back in the Eighties or Nineties.¹

I didn’t care for the prequels, but did enjoy watching second rendition of The Clone Wars and its successor, Star Wars Rebels, which is currently in its third season. Despite being aired on Disney XD, an obscure outlet, I look for illegal copies online to watch, mostly on YouTube.

The central villain of season three is Grand Admiral Thrawn. His portrayal is terrific. I just hope we get to see more of him.

Darth Maul was another wonderful creation and killing him off at the end of The Phantom Menace was a serious blunder.

1. And the video clip on YouTube is from an old VHS tape with the actual broadcast from KGW, channel 8, in Portland, Oregon, no less. That’s exactly what I was watching.
